Privacy

Plain answer first: reading this site requires nothing from you, and we run no advertising trackers and no analytics cookies. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to type into a form.

What we collect

If you use the tips page, we store what you submit: your message, the kind of enquiry, the page a correction refers to, and any name, email or phone number you choose to include. All contact fields on the tip and correction forms are optional; anonymous tips are welcome. Submissions are stored securely and used only to follow up the tip, correction or enquiry they belong to. We do not sell or share them, and we never publish a tipster’s identity.

Hosting logs

The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, as any web host does. We use aggregate, non-identifying traffic counts to understand what is being read.

To be exact about those counts: we keep one row per page view, holding the page, the country, whether the request came from a phone or a desktop, whether it was a crawler, and which page of this site linked you here if one did. It holds no cookie, no IP address and no user-agent string, so it cannot identify you or tell a returning reader from a new one. When you arrive from another site we record that site's name only, never the address you came from or anything you searched for.

Fonts

Both typefaces are served from this site, not from Google Fonts or any other font service. Opening a story here connects your browser to this site and to nothing else: no fonts, no scripts, no images and no measurement from anybody's servers but ours. There is exactly one exception in the whole site and it is the tips page, which runs a Cloudflare spam check so the form is usable at all; that check loads a script from Cloudflare and is described below. This page said the opposite until 30 August 2026, which was wrong when it was written rather than a change of practice.

The one third-party request, and it is on the tips page

The tips form carries a Cloudflare Turnstile check, which is what stops the form filling up with junk. It loads a script from challenges.cloudflare.com, so opening the tips page does connect your browser to Cloudflare. It is there to tell a person from a script and it sets no advertising cookie, but it is a request to somebody else's server and we would rather name it than let you find it in the page source. No other page on this site loads anything from anywhere but here.
